Obituary for William Henry Moses

William Henry Moses, age 74, of Tyrone entered the eternal presence of God on January 14, 2014 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh. He was born March 25, 1939 in Scranton, the son of John Roswell and Mae Britton Moses. Surviving is a sister, Mary Janet Moses Heiss.
He was a graduate of Abington High School Class of 1957. He received a B.A. Degree in Business Administration from The King’s College, New York, NY in 1962.
On January 23, 1971 William joined his heart together with Rev. Terryann Talbot-Moses and they would soon have celebrated 43 years of marriage. He is survived by his spouse and his furry family of canines whom he loved very much.
William was in the Pennsylvania National Guard from 1957 until 1962 where he attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. He received an honorable discharge. He had been a member of the Howard Gardner American Legion Post #281 for over 10 years. He served in many positions, but enjoyed serving as Legion Commander for years.
He was actively involved in the congregations of St. John Lutheran Church, Sinking Valley and Grace Lutheran Church, Bellwood where his spouse serves as Interim Pastor. He was well studied in the areas of history, theology, and bible as well as military history.
For 20 years Moses worked for the Home Savings Bank, White Plains, NY as an internal auditor and security guard. He retired 8 years ago after serving 17 years as an armed guard, driver and messenger for Brinks, Inc. During retirement, he enjoyed caring for his canine family and supporting his wife in her ministry.
In addition to his membership in the American Legion, he was an active member of the National Rifle Association where he achieved the title of “Marksman” shooter. He was an avid firearms enthusiast, and enjoyed target shooting and hunting.
A Memorial Service for William will be held at Grace Lutheran Church, 1114 N. Cambria Street, Bellwood, PA on Saturday, January 19, 2014 at 1:00 PM. The Liturgy of Word and Sacrament will be presided over by the Rev. Gregory R. Pile, Bishop of the Allegheny Synod, ELCA. He will be assisted by Rev. P. Stevens Lynn, Grace Lutheran Church, State College and Rev. Jaime G. Olson, Evangelical Lutheran Church, Duncansville, PA
At William’s request there will be no public viewing, however friends will be received at Grace Lutheran Church from 11 AM until the time of service. A luncheon will follow the service in the Parish Hall of Grace Lutheran Church, Bellwood, served by members of the Grace and St. John congregations. All are invited to join William’s family there. There will be a flag presentation by the Tyrone Honor Guard.
