Obituary for Shirley J. Carson

Shirley J. Carson, age 85, of Tyrone died Monday, December 8, 2014 at her residence. She was born November 23, 1929 in Altoona, the daughter of Robert and Estella Lytle Sellers. On March 1, 1947 she was married to William E. Carson Sr. who survives. Also surviving are four children – William E. Jr. (Anita), Canton, OH, Barbara J. (John) Davis, Carlisle, Kathy (Calvin) Stewart, Point of Rocks, MD and Vanessa (David) Gardner, Tyrone, ten grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and a brother Robert (Donna) Sellers of Altoona and two sisters, Edith Geist and Carol Koch, both of Altoona. She was preceded by one granddaughter and one sister Betty.

Mrs. Carson was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd, of the adult Sunday School Class and had served as a teacher of both the adult and children’s Sunday school classes. She was a member of the church Bible study group and worked with Meals on Wheels. She particularly enjoyed her grandchildren. She enjoyed antiques, gardening, her sewing club and her card club.

Funeral service for Shirley J. Carson will be Friday, December 12, 2014 at 11 AM at the Church of the Good Shepherd with Pastor Aden Wertz officiating. Interment will be in Blair Memorial Park. Friends will be received at the Richard H. Searer Funeral Home Inc. on Thursday from 6 to 8 PM.

Contributions in Mrs. Carson’s memory are requested to the Church of the Good Shepherd, 1650 Clay Avenue, Tyrone, PA 16686.
