Obituary for Robert Lee Skelton
Robert Lee Skelton, 80, of Tyrone died Thursday October 27, 2016 at the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home
He was born February 9, 1936 in Tyrone, a son of Delmar and Wilmina (Wisor) Skelton. He was formerly married to Beverly Dean who survives in Tyrone.
Surviving are four daughters Delores Skelton, Bobbi Lynn Williams and Brenda Savino all of Tyrone, Kathy Jo Skelton of Altoona, eight grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and a sister Carol Parks of Bald Eagle He was preceded in death by three brothers Donald, Delmer and William and two sisters Delores and Georganna.
Mr. Skelton retired in January 1998 as manager of Blind Enterprise of Pennsylvania serving as canteen operator.
He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Tyrone and the Howard Gardner American Legion.
He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict serving as an Airman First Class.
Affectionately known as “swivel hips Skelton” he had been a volunteer for Epworth Manor, Special Olympics, James E. VanZandt VA Hospital and the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home. He was proud of ringing the bell at donation sites during Christmas time for the Salvation Army. He enjoyed basketball, bowling and walking.
Friends will be received at the Feller Memorial Home on Saturday October 29, 2016 from 9 A.M. until the funeral services at 11 A.M. with Rev. David Keyworth officiating. Interment will be at Blair Memorial Park. The Tyrone Honor Guard will accord veteran’s honors for the service.
Memorial gifts may be made to the Blair/Clearfield Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired, 300 Fifth Avenue – Altoona PA, 16602.
