Obituary for Richard E Hoover

Richard E. Hoover, age 87, of Tyrone passed away Monday, July 25, 2016 at UPMC Altoona surrounded by his loving family. He was born March 4, 1929 in Tyrone, the son of the late James A. and Florence (Snyder) Hoover. On September 21, 1950 he was married to Phyllis Kooken who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Rick (Jenni) and Greg (Beth) all of Tyrone and five grandsons – Jason (Tara) of Pittsburgh, Justin of State College, Brandon of Altoona, Brady of Tyrone and Tyler (Brittany) of Tipton and two great grandchildren – Liam and Landon. He was preceded in death by sisters Margie Rozick and Janet Valentine and was the last of his immediate family.
Richard was a graduate of Tyrone High School, Class of 1947 and of Penn State University and studied for one year at Kent State. He retired on June 12, 1992 from Huntingdon Vo-Tech School where he had been employed as an auto mechanic instructor. He had previously been employed as a mill wright at Westvaco in Tyrone. He was a member of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church.
He was a member of Deep Well Hunting Camp, of the Blazing Arrow Hook and Ladder Fire
Company, the Tyrone B.P.O.E. and was a past member of the Sinking Valley Country Club and of their Board of Directors.
There will be no visitation or service. Contributions in Mr. Hoover’s memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 2040 Linglestown Road, Suite 106, Harrisburg, PA 17110 or the Alzheimers Association, 3544 N. Progress Avenue, Suite 205, Harrisburg, PA 17110. Arrangements are under the care of the Richard H. Searer Funeral Home Inc.
