Obituary for Reba B. Rhodes

Reba B. Rhodes, age 93, of Tyrone and a guest at Epworth Manor died Saturday, September 21,
2013 at the Manor. She was born June 16, 1920 in Hyndman, the daughter of Lloyd and Nina G. Shaffer
Burkett. On May 7, 1942 at the Columbia Avenue Methodist Church parsonage she was married to
Homer Rhodes who preceded her in death November 13, 1980. She is survived by Homer (Helen) Rhodes
Jr. of Boalsburg and Patricia (Richard) Gardner of Tyrone, eight grandchildren, Richard W. Gardner III,
Kristel Kustenbauder, Robert Gardner, Rebecca Durgin, Mary Sweeney, Michelle Humphreys, Emily
Rhodesand Margaret Rhodes and 15 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son Michael
and a sister Charlotte Hostler and was the last of her immediate family.
Mrs. Rhodes was a member of the First English Lutheran Church. She was a graduate of Tyrone
High School Class of 1938 and had been employed as a sewing machine operator at Big Yank, retiring in
1982. She was very active in her church and loved to cook big dinners for her family
Funeral service for Reba B. Rhodes will be Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at
11 AM at the First English Lutheran Church with Reverend Ralph Hamer officiating. Interment will be at
Blair Memorial Park. Friends will be received at the Richard H. Searer Funeral Home Inc., Tyrone on
Tuesday from 6 to 8 PM and on Wednesday from 10 to the 11 AM service at the church.
