Obituary for Ralph J. Romano

Ralph J. Romano, 92, of Tyrone died Sunday at Epworth Manor.
A lifelong resident of Tyrone, he was the son of Peter and Mary (Kobak) Romano. On May 31, 1947, at St. Barbara's Catholic Church, Houtzdale, he was married to Johanna C. Polachko
He is survived by his wife; three children: Christopher of Altoona, Cynthia (Larry) Borda of Yardley, Pa. and Cheryl (Kenneth) Lee in Va.; three granddaughters; one grandson; a brother Leonard (Donna) Romano; and sisters: Theresa Gill and Lucile Romano, all of Tyrone.
Mr. Romano was a member of St. Matthew's Catholic Church and a graduate of Tyrone High School, Class of 1940.
He had been employed as a pipefitter at Westvaco for 30 years and retired in 1986 from the Maintenance Department of PPG.
He was a veteran of service in the US Navy in the South Pacific in World War ll.
He was a member of St. Gregory Council Knights of Columbus, the Tyrone Monogram Club, Howard Gardner Post #281 American Legion, Post #4559 Veterans of Foreign Wars, Tyrone Elks Lodge #212, Tyrone Hook and Ladder Fire Company and Pius X Hunting Camp.
Friends will be received from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Richard H. Searer Funeral Home Inc. A Mass of Christian Burial for Ralph J. Romano will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at St. Matthew's Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.
Contributions in Mr. Romano's memory are requested to St. Matthew's Catholic School, 406 11th Street, Tyrone, PA 16686.
