Obituary for Marguerite Y. Mattern (Peggy)

Marguerite (Peggy) Y. Mattern, 90, of Tyrone and a guest at Epworth Manor died Saturday, November 9, 2013 at Epworth Manor. She was born November 4, 1923 in Altoona, the daughter of Stewart and Melinda Yinger Bell and in 1954 she was married at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church by Monsignor Harkins to Melvin E. Mattern who preceded her in death February 10 1979. She is survived by 2 sons and 2 daughters, Charles (Dee) Mattern, Altoona, James (Cindy) Mattern, Tyrone, Melinda (Ed) Dean, Tyrone and Marguerite “Doug” Isenberg, Franklintown, PA., five grandchildren – Heather (T.J.) Alexander, Tyrone, Corinne (Rick) Shindel, Dillsburg, Jimmy and Joey Mattern both of Tyrone, Kyle Mattern, Altoona, and 3 great grandchildren, Brittani, Christian and Faith. Also surviving are a number of nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death was her son David, and sisters Betty Hiner, Jane Johnson, Ann Bell, and brothers Jack and Richard Bell.
She was a graduate of Tyrone High School, Class of 1942 and had been employed by Bell Telephone and retired after a number of years of service as a clerk and cashier for A & P. She was a member of St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, of the church prayer group and was a devoted mother to her children and was very family oriented.
A funeral Mass will be said by Father Dennis Kurdziel on Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at 12 noon at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends will be received at the Richard H. Searer Funeral Home Inc. on Tuesday from 7 to 9 PM.
