Obituary for Iona Ruth McCahan

Mrs. Iona Ruth McCahan, age 92, of Tyrone, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday,
October 29, 2013 at UPMC, Altoona. She was born November 6, 1920 at Sandy Ridge, the
daughter of Ira and Ada Kennedy Moore and on March 23, 1940 at Winchester, VA was married
to Richard E. McCahan Sr. who preceded her in death December 16, 1967. She is survived by 4
children – Richard E. Jr. (Karin), Tyrone, R. Glayde (Patricia), Lewisburg, Scott (Mary), Tyrone and
Thomas Lee (Viola), Bellwood. A daughter, Mrs. Kenneth (Aretta) Bonsell of Tyrone preceded her in
death. Also surviving is a brother Boyd, Tyrone and a sister Mary Louise Sudik of Niles, Ohio, 11
grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 4 brothers – Hugh, Ira,
Forrest and Earl and 5 sisters – Aretta Gripp, Mildred Henderson, Laura Christine, Norma Rice,
all of Tyrone and Viola Lohr, Garrett, PA.
Mrs. McCahan was a member of the Tyrone Alliance Church. At one time she had been
employed as a cook in the Tyrone Area School System and retired in 1985 as a sorter from Chicago
Rivet and Machine Company.
Funeral service for Mrs. McCahan will be Monday, November 4, 2013 at 11 AM at the
Tyrone Alliance Church conducted by Pastor Carl Schmidt. Private burial will be at the convenience
of the family at Blair Memorial Park.
Contributions in Mrs. McCahan’s memory are requested to Special Olympics, P.O. Box
648, Altoona, PA 16603, or the Tyrone Alliance Church, 2103 Adams Avenue, Tyrone, PA 16686 or to the
Evangelical Baptist Church, 183 Logan Street, Osceola Mills, PA 16666.
