Obituary for Eugene R. "Gene" Hagg

Eugene R, Hagg, 82, of Tyrone died Tuesday January 21, 2014 at Epworth Manor.

He was born September 18, 1931 in Tyrone, a son of Ralph and Emma (Schoch) Hagg.

Surviving are 2 brothers Francis and wife Martha of Tyrone and Vincent of Tyrone and friend Vila Ann Dixon of Aiken, S.C. He was preceded in death by 2 sisters Sr. Mary Lambert and Louise Klesius and a brother Joseph.

Mr. Hagg retired in 1980 from Chicago-Rivet, Tyrone as a machine operator following 25 years service. He had also raised beef cattle on the family farm.

He was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church, Tyrone Legion, Tyrone VFW, Hookies Fire Company, Tyrone and was a charter of the Monogram Club, Tyrone.

He was a Army veteran of the Korea War serving as a medic in the 2nd Division.

Gene was an avid sports fan following local Tyrone High School sports and the Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers. He had excelled in high school sports and played an integral part in the undefeated Tyrone High School football teams of 1947-48. He was a state qualifier in wrestling and was later voted the outstanding post WWII athlete winning the Jim Thorp award.

Funeral Mass will be held Monday January 27, 2014 at 12 Noon at St. Matthew Church with Fr. Jozef Kovacik celebrant. Interment will be at Oak Grove Cemetery. There will be no viewing or visitation.
