Obituary for Dorothy Mae Spanelli

Mrs. Dorothy Mae Spanelli, age 89, of Bald Eagle died Thursday, February 20, 2014 at 5:10 AM at Epworth Manor. She was born October 20, 1924 in Bald Eagle, the daughter of Samuel T. and Orpha Reese Friday and on September 12, 1946 at Winchester, VA she was married to Peter F. “Pete” Spanelli who preceded her in death September 27, 2011. She is survived by a son Steven P. (Denise) Spanelli of Bald Eagle, a granddaughter Sherry (Sean) Bietz of Bald Eagle and grandson Steven A. Spanelli of State College and two great grandchildren Olivia and Landon Bietz. Also surviving is brother, Fred Friday and a sister Katherine Parks, both of Bald Eagle. Dorothy was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold and James Friday and sisters-in-law Gwenavere Friday, Rose Boscaino, Lenore Mengel, Kay DelBaggio and Dora Patton.
Dorothy was a graduate of Tyrone High School Class of 1942 and had been employed at Reliance Manufacturing Co and worked for the Shipping and Receiving Department of Montgomery Ward in Tyrone and also as a nurse’s aide at Mrs. Eaken’s Rest Home In Bald Eagle. She was the oldest member of the Bald Eagle United Methodist Church and was very active in the Women’s Society and a member of the Women’s Sunday School Class. She had a great love for her family and particularly enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Funeral service for Dorothy M. Spanelli will be Sunday, February 23rd at 3:00 PM at the Richard H. Searer Funeral Home Inc. with Reverend Norman E. Huff officiating. Private interment will be made at the convenience of the family in Blair Memorial Park. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Saturday from 5 to 8 PM and on Sunday from 2 PM until the 3 PM service.
Contributions in Mrs. Spanelli’s memory may be made to the Bald Eagle United Methodist Church, 2862 Bald Eagle Pike. Tyrone, PA 16686.
