Obituary for Charles "Bob" Bennett



Charles “Bob” Bennett Jr., 87, of Port Matilda died Thursday April 3, 2014 at Mt. Nittany Medical Center.

He was born October 6, 1926 in Port Matilda, a son of Charles Henry and Eva Mae (Price) Bennett. On February 25, 1950 in Port Matilda he married Dorothy S. Gill.

Surviving are his wife, a daughter Deborah Bennett of Julian, a granddaughter Jami Richards and husband Thadd of Julian, 2 great-grandchildren Jacey and Steven Richards, a great-great-granddaughter Aubrey Mae Richards, a sister Rosalie Foster of Tyrone, a brother Fred and wife Shirl of Port Matilda and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by2 sisters Bertha Weller and Catherine Sickles and 3 brothers Merle, Ray and Dean Bennett.

Mr. Bennett retired in 1991 from Centre Community Hospital as maintenance supervisor following 20 years service.

He was a member of Martha United Methodist Church, National American Legion and the Port Matilda Lions Club.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII serving as a Private First Class in the 127th Infantry with service in the Philippines and Japan.

Bob enjoyed traveling in his motor home with his wife and especially loved taking his great-grandchildren to Myrtle Beach. He had sponsored the Sealtest bowling team for 7 years.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday April 8, 2014 at 11 A.M. at Feller Memorial Home with Pastor Brian Judy officiating. Interment will follow at Port Matilda Presbyterian Cemetery. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Monday from 6 to 8 P.M. Veteran’s honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the Wilson-Patton American Legion, Post 536, Port Matilda. .
