Betty I. (Wertz) Cowfer, 76 of Tyrone, died Sunday June 16, 2019. Born on August 3, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Margaret Murray Wertz. On July 2, 1960 at the Bald Eagle United Methodist Church she married John I. Cowfer who preceded her in death on February 21, 2011. Betty is survived by two daughters: Sharon (George) Gripp of Warriors Mark and Deborah (Lukasz) Gorski of Hollywood, FL; three grandchildren: Nicole, Brandon and Damon Gripp; and one great-granddaughter: Kendall Gripp. She was the last of her immediate family.
Betty was a 1960 graduate of Tyrone High School and went on to become a certified respiratory therapist through California University. She worked as a respiratory therapist at the Tyrone Hospital for many years. She was also a member of the Bald Eagle United Methodist Church where she served on the women’s auxiliary and taught Sunday school.
She enjoyed traveling and taking trips to visit her daughter Deborah in Florida as well as heading to Myrtle Beach with her girlfriends. Betty also liked crocheting and made many baby blankets to give as gifts. She was an avid reader, liked to garden and rooted hard for her Philadelphia based sports teams. She loved watching her grandchildren’s sporting events and creating a scrapbook for each of their seasons. Most of all she loved her family and spent a lot of time with them during family meals and holidays.

Searer Funeral Home, Inc. and from 10 to 11 AM Friday June 21, 2019 at the Bald Eagle United Methodist Church.
