Obituary for Betty J. Buterbaugh

Betty J. Buterbaugh, age 94, of Tyrone and a guest at Colonial Courtyard died Sunday, May 17, 2015. She was born April 17 1921 in Vail, Tyrone, the daughter of Washington Irving and Florence Nearhoof Dayton. On September 27, 1939 at Winchester, VA she was married to Milford E. Buterbaugh who preceded her in death October 11, 2014. She is survived by 3 children – Bonnie (Charles) Houser, Bald Eagle, Gary Buterbaugh, Greenville, SC and Amy (Elmer) Schulz, Cuyahoga Falls, OH, two grandchildren – Adam Halsey, Brooksville, FL and Rebecca Berry, Canal Winchester, OH and three great-grandchildren, Marissa and Adalynn Halsey and Dayton Berry. Also surviving are two sisters – Ruth Elder and Annis Bonsell, both of Tyrone and Washington Irving Dayton Jr., of Florida. She was preceded in death by a brother and sister – Paul Dayton and Patricia Piper.
Mrs. Buterbaugh was a member of Grace Baptist Church and was very active in her church. She had been a member of the Bald Eagle Church Missionary Society and was a former Sunday School teacher at both the Bald Eagle Methodist and Grace Baptist Churches for over 60 years. She had directed the Children’s Choir at the Grace Baptist Church and was a member of the Gracettes Women’s Ensemble. Mrs. Buterbaugh had taught Good News clubs and had worked on the Election Board. She was a graduate of Tyrone High School Class of 1938 and was a homemaker and mother.
Funeral service for Betty J. Buterbaugh will be Friday, May 22, 2015 at 11 AM at the Grace Baptist Church, 2308 Adams Avenue, Tyrone, PA 16686 with Pastor Roy Garthwaite officiating. Private interment will be in Bald Eagle Cemetery. Friends will be received at the church on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM.
