Obituary for Arthur T. Colyer

Arthur T. Colyer, age 90, of Tyrone died Monday, April 20, 2015 at Tyrone Hospital. He was born April 14, 1925 in Altoona, the son of Samuel A. and Sarah Adeline Varner Colyer. On February 11, 1967 at Wesley Memorial Methodist Church, Juniata he was married to Edna Bollman Rumberger who preceded him in death March 14, 2010. He is survived by a daughter, Crystal (Barry) Herr and a step-son Thomas (Karen) Rumberger both of Tyrone and grandchildren Joann Rumberger Williams, Juniata, Thomas J. Rumberger, Ridge Allen Colyer and Sarah Louise Marie Herr, all of Tyrone and three great grandchildren Kyle Williams, and Sage and Logan Rumberger. He was preceded in death by a brother Charles (Pete) Colyer and sister Grace Sollenberger, both of Altoona.
Mr. Colyer was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Tyrone. He was a graduate of Altoona High School Class of 1944. He served in the US Air Force for 22 years, retiring in 1964. He retired as an E6(Tech. Sgt.) and had served as an aircraft mechanic in WW II, Korea (Okinawa) and the Vietnam era. He was a life member of V.F.W. Post #4559, a member of Post #281 American Legion, a life member of the Cooties, a member of the 40 et 8, the Tyrone Honor Guard, the Tyrone Fire Police, a life member of the Citizens Fire Company, a member of the Blazing Arrow Hook and Ladder Fire Company and the Neptune Fire Company, and was an active volunteer at the VanZandt Veterans Hospital.
Funeral service for Arthur T. Colyer will be Friday, April 24th at 11 AM at Wesley United Methodist Church with Reverend Jason Guillaume officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the Tyrone Honor Guard. Interment will be in Carson Valley Cemetery. Friends may call at the Richard H. Searer Funeral Home Inc. on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM and at the church for one hour prior to the 11 AM service.
