William Noble 'Bill' Gibboney
Nov. 25, 1926 – Feb. 4, 2022
William Noble "Bill" Gibboney, 95, Tyrone, peacefully passed away Friday at his home. He was born at home in Tyrone, second child of the late John G. and Vesta (Noble) Gibboney.
Surviving at home is his wife, Flora "Jane" Hamor, who he married on Aug. 26, 1956, at the First Presbyterian Church in Tyrone. Also surviving are two daughters, Hollie Lindquist of Bellefonte and Betsy Stiner (Bill) of Henryville, Pa; three grandchildren: Nichole Kutsor, Billy Stiner and Lucas Stiner; a great-granddaughter, Scarlett J. Stiner; and several nieces and nephews.
Bill attended Tyrone Area School District, where he was a member of the football and wrestling teams. After high school Bill enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served in Italy during WWII and was honorably discharged.
After his honorable discharge from the Army, Bill began work at Chicago Rivet and Machine Co. as a machinist and worked for 43 years until his retirement in 1990.
Bill was an avid bowler. He was captain of the DelGrosso Bowling Team for 41 years and a member of the VFW Jack Reed Classic League for 40 years. In 2007, Bill was elected to the USBC- Altoona District Hall of Fame.
He also loved softball. Bill organized and managed many teams throughout the years and loved watching the Chicago Cubs.
Bill was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Tyrone, the VFW, American Legion and the Bavarian Aid Society.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by two sisters, Majorie Waite and Jane C. Gibboney; a brother, Gilbert; and son-in-law, Terry Lindguist.
The family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Dr. John Reinhardt and the healthcare professionals of UPMC hospice for their comfort, care and guidance during this last year. We would also like a special thank you to Vivian Shauf and "our" girls for their help as well.
There will be no visitation or services at this time. A Celebration of Life will be held at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements are by Feller Memorial Home, Tyrone.
