William N. Beam Jr., age 99 of Northwood, died Saturday, June 10, 2017 at the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home. Bill was born on December 28, 1917 in Northwood, the son of the late William N. and Caroline Nelson Sr. Mr. Beam is survived by a second-cousin, Alex F. "Duke" Wilson Jr. (Patricia) and was the last of his immediate family.

Bill attended Tyrone Area High School before serving in the Army Air Corp from 1941 until 1945, receiving the rank of Sergeant. He served during World War II and was stationed in Australia as an engine mechanic.

Mr. Beam was a mamber of the First English Lutheran Church of Tyrone. He was a lifetime member of the NRA and National Geographic. He enjoyed firearms and shooting as well as spending time outdoors. In his younger years he traveled throughout the United States and Canada. He was also an avid reader.
