August 6, 1951 – June 29, 2024
Wayne F. Freed, 72, of Tipton, died Saturday. He was born in Parkersburg, W.Va., son of the Late William M. and Irene L. (Davis) Freed. On Aug. 14, 1992, in Winchester, Va., he married Linda Potts who preceded him in death in 2011.
Wayne graduated from State College High School in 1969. He joined the Air Force and served honorably for four years during the Vietnam War, then transferred to the U.S. Army until he was discharged after 20 years serving as Staff Sgt 318th Maintenance Company in the U.S. Army Reserves. Wayne received a BA from Penn State, and retired from Penn State University in 2015 after 41 years, where he issued Air Force ROTC uniform to cadets.
Wayne's hobbies included reading, writing poetry, classical and rock music. He worked with St. Labre Indian School and was active with the Special Olympics and had been a House Parent.
He is survived by two daughters, Theresa and Melissa; two grandsons; a granddaughter; brothers, Larry and Richard; nieces and nephews; and his family members of the Potts Family.
Visitation will be at Feller Memorial Home from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 3, 2024, with a service to follow. His brothers, Larry and Richard Freed, will officiate. Interment will be held at Charlottesville Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please have contributions sent to the Tyrone Snyder Public Library, 1000 Penna Ave., Tyrone, PA 16686.
