Obituary

Shirley A. Cannistraci, 83 of Tyrone, passed away on Sunday, December 25, 2022. She was born on March 22, 1939, in Bellwood, the daughter of Jerry and Mary (VanSkyock) Gensamer Sr. On August 26, 1961 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Bellwood, she married Anthony G. "Geno" Cannistraci, who preceded her in death on April 1, 2014. She is survived by one daughter: Theresa Cannistraci; three sons: Anthony II, Sam (Chris), and Angelo "AJ" (Lisa) Cannistraci; 9 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a brother Ronald Gensamer Jr. She was preceded by a grandson: Brandon Cannistraci; and four brothers: Wilber, Jerry, Robert, and Paul Gensamer.

She was a graduate of Bellwood-Antis High School. She retired as manager from Dollar General after 23 years, working at both the Bellwood and Tyrone locations. She was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church in Tyrone where she was very active. Shirley was also a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas.

She loved being with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed gambling and canning.

A 10 am funeral Mass will be held for Shirley A. Cannistraci on Thursday, December 29, 2022, at St. Matthew Catholic Church with Father Jozef Kovacik officiating. Interment will follow the Mass at Oak Grove Cemetery. Contributions in her memory may be made to St. Matthew Catholic Church, 1105 Cameron Avenue, Tyrone, PA 16686.
