Sarah Jane Long Irvin of Sinking Valley died unexpectedly Friday, December 12, 2014 at UPMC Altoona. She was born August 2, 1938 in Sinking Valley. In 1956 she was married to Franklin R, Long who preceded her in death April 15, 2007. On October 27, 2012 she was married to Rodney Irvin who survives. She is survived by 8 children – Greg (Crystal), Jeff (Vikki), Linda Jones, Gary (Jennifer) all of Sinking Valley, Gretchen (Paul) Winklosky of Latrobe, Jerry (Pamela) of Sinking Valley, Brian (Jan) of England and Terry (Heather) of Sinking Valley, 20 grandchildren, three step children – Kenny(Wendy) Irvin of FL, Danny (Tammy) Irvin of TN, and Kelly (Gary) Carico of FL. Also surviving are six step-grandchildren and one step great grandchild.
Sarah was a member of the First English Lutheran Church and had served on the church council. She was a graduate of Tyrone High School Class of 1956. She was a homemaker and was very devoted to her family. She was Chairman of the Blair County Dairy Promotion for 15 years and a member of the committee for 25 years. She had served as the coordinator of the PA State Fair Queen program and chaperone for PA Fair Queens for 9 years and had been the secretary of the Sinking Valley Fair for the past 28 years. She had attended every convention of the Pennsylvania State Association of County Fairs since 1977. In 1999 she received the ACE Award from the Blair County Chamber of Commerce. She had served as a former member of the board of the PA State Farm Bureau.
Funeral service for Sarah Long Irvin will be Tuesday, December 16th at 11 AM at the First English Lutheran Church, Tyrone, with Pastor Sharon Erb officiating. Interment will follow in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Sinking Valley. Friends are invited to call at the Richard H. Searer Funeral Home Inc. on Monday from 12 noon until 2 PM and from 6 to 8 PM and at the church on Tuesday for one hour prior to the 11 AM service.
