Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Ronald Kennedy Sr., who passed away on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at the age of 87.

Born on January 17, 1939, in Tyrone, Pennsylvania, Ron was the son of Hayes Kennedy and Helen Bonsel Kennedy. A 1956 graduate of Tyrone High School, he proudly served four years in the United States Marine Corps before returning to Tyrone.

Ron went on to enjoy a distinguished 37-year career with Westvaco Corporation, serving as National Sales Manager for the Edgemate Division.

He married the love of his life, Betty Jane Bell, and together they shared 61 years of marriage before her passing in 2022. They made their home in Mount Joy, Pennsylvania, where they raised their two children, Ron Jr. and Jaylee

Ron is survived by his son, Ronald Kennedy Jr., husband of Denise Kennedy, of Manheim, Pennsylvania; his daughter, Jaylee Ferreri, wife of Michael Ferreri, of Gilbertsville, Pennsylvania; his grandchildren, Cameron Ferreri and Connor Ferreri, husband of Elizabeth; and his sister, Janis Kennedy of Mount Joy. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jane; his parents, Hayes and Helen; and his sister, Gwen Barrett.

Ron was an active member of his community. He served as past president of the Altoona Model Train Club, was a longtime member of Donegal Presbyterian Church in Mount Joy, the Hollidaysburg Presbyterian Church, and was a lifetime member of the BPOE Elks Club in Tyrone. He was also a 32nd-degree Mason and a lifetime member of Casiphia Masonic Lodge in Mount Joy.

Ron will be remembered for his service to his country, his professional accomplishments, and his love for model trains. Above all, Ron was devoted to his family. He always strived to give his children a better life than the one he had, working hard to provide them with opportunities and a future filled with possibilities. His love was reflected in the sacrifices he made, the values he instilled, and the life he worked so hard to build for his family. That commitment will remain an enduring part of his legacy.

The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the Presbyterian Home in Hollidaysburg as well as Gentil Hospice for the compassionate care, kindness, and support provided to Ron during his stay.

A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.
