Robert D. Mitchell, age 96, of Dunellen, NJ and a guest at Epworth Manor, Tyrone, PA died Monday, November 3, 2014 at the Manor. He was born June 11, 1918 in Plainfield, NJ, the son of Robert and Florence Debele Mitchell. He was married June 21, 1942 to Emeline Nimmo who preceded him in death in 2013, He is survived by two children, Dianne Meckes, Warriors Mark, PA and Robert (Linda Heinze) Mitchell, Indialantic, FL, two grandchildren Matthew (Lauren Bell) Mitchell and Taylor (Kevin Reinhardt) Mitchell, one great grandson Emery Mitchell-Reinhardt and a number of nieces and nephews. Two sisters, Helen Mitchell De'Lillo and Jane Mitchell Burdick preceded him in death. Mr. Mitchell was a graduate of Dunellen High School, Class of 1935 and served in the US Army from February 1941 until September 1943. He had been a salesman for Crown Zellerbach Paper Company, retiring after 40 years of service. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Dunellen, NJ. He had served as president and Board member of the Dunellen Board of Education. He was a volunteer, president and a Board member of the Dunellen Library and was a volunteer and Food Director with FISH Hospitality, a faith based Food Bank. Mr. Mitchell loved to travel with his wife and friends, loved to putter around, enjoyed being with his family and lived a wonderful life. Private funeral service for Robert D. Mitchell will be at the convenience of the family. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Dunellen Boro Public Library, 100 New Market Road, Dunellen, NJ 08812 or to FISH Inc, - Dunellen Area, P.O. Box 8565, Piscataway, NJ 08855. Funeral arrangements are under the care of the Richard H. Searer Funeral Home, 115 W. 10th Street, Tyrone, PA 16686.
