Robert "Bob" Matthew Calderwood, 68, passed away May 13, 2026.
Bob was born in Tyrone to Robert Melroy Calderwood and May Lou Calderwood (Shanafelt). He was preceded in death by his father, Robert, and his sister, Lisa.
Bob is survived by his mother, Mary Lou; his sister, Susan; and his brother, Patrick Kerry.
Bob was a dedicated weight and strength trainer and an accomplished athlete in track. He also excelled in his avid Tae Kwon Do training. Beyond athletics, Bob enjoyed collecting antique bottles and spending time working at the flea market.
Known throughout the Blair County area for his gentle spirit and loyal friendships, Bob touched the lives of many people. He loved adventure and spontaneity, often driving his Chevy on a whim and end up at a beach in New Jersey, or the "Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania," usually with his brother along for the ride. Bob embraced life with enthusiasm and treasured the many friendships he built, especially those with dear friends Mike Albright and Tim and Terry Estright, among many others.
During his early to mid-20s, Bob was diagnosed with a chronic brain disease after symptoms began to emerge, which is a common progression of the illness. Over the following decades, he required intermittent treatment and periods of structured care settings. During this time, Bob unfortunately lost contact with many of the people he loved and cared about. The course of his life changed dramatically as a result of his illness, making his loss all the more heartbreaking - almost like a light being extinguished twice.
He will be remembered for his kind heart, adventurous spirit, and the lasting friendships he shared with so many.
In memory of Bob, if you have someone in your life you've been meaning to reach out to - someone who may be struggling, feeling alone, or someone you've been planning to visit "when life slows down" - please don't keep putting it off. Make the time now. Put forth the effort today. Sometimes tomorrow comes far too soon.
A 7 pm memorial service for Robert "Bob" Matthew Calderwood will be held Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at Richard H. Searer Funeral Home, Inc. with visitation from 4 pm until the time of service.
