Richard D. Barr, 89 of Tyrone, passed away Sunday, May 15, 2022. He was born in Altoona, on January 9, 1933, the son of the late Charles Timothy and Alice Katherine (Biggins) Barr. On February 22, 1957, in Indiana, PA, he married Mary Jane Hixson, who preceded him in death on December 19, 1992. He is survived by four children: Christel (John Rizzo) Grazier, Betsy (Tom) Tyler, Charlie (Lois Fulks) Barr, and Mark (Brenda) Barr; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a nephew: Tim Barr; and a special friend: Carole Bishop. He was preceded by one sister: Suzanne Smith, and was the last of his immediate family.

Richard was a 1950 graduate of Tyrone High School, and attended Juniata College. He served honorably in the US Army National Guard for 15 years. He was employed by WestVaco for 22 years and then PPG where he worked for another 22 years until his retirement in 1993.

He was a member of the BPOE Lodge 212, American Legion Howard Gardner Post 281, and the Knights of Columbus. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and enjoyed classic cars.

An 11 am Mass for Richard D. Barr will be held on Thursday, May 19, 2022, at St. Matthew Catholic Church in Tyrone with Father Jozef Kovacik officiating. Private interment will be held at Oak Grove Cemetery in Tyrone. Donations in his memory may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
