Richard J. "Dick" Allen, 91 of Tyrone, passed away Sunday, December 25, 2022. He was born in Altoona on August 20, 1931, the son of the late Gary Franklin and Marion Elizabeth (Fisher) Allen. On November 21, 1981, at the Spring Mount Church of the Brethren he married Effie Mae Nearhoof who survives. Also surviving is a daughter: Vicky Lee (Steve) Lang of Everett; three stepchildren: Linda Wertz of Tyrone, Buddy Stroup of Flinton, and Mitchell (Valerie) Stroup of Mobile, AL; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Barbara Castorina and Bonnie Jo Ghaner. He was preceded in death by two stepsons: Larry and Michael Stroup; and a brother Tom Allen.

Dick was a 1949 graduate of Tyrone Area High School. He was enlisted in the US Navy where he served his country honorably. He attended the Spring Mount Church of the Brethren. He was a member of the Tyrone BPOE Elks lodge 212 and the Anderson-Denny VFW Post 4559.

He enjoyed spending time with his wife and family, fishing, camping, and traveling to Florida.

Services for Richard J. "Dick" Allen will be held at the convenience of the family. Contributions in his memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Research, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
