Ray Burley Rodgers of Cook Hollow Road and Eagle Valley Road, Tyrone. Passed away on March 19, 2025, at the age of 93 years old. Ray was born on June 6, 1931, to Frank I. and Grace Dobbs Rodgers in Tyrone, PA.
Ray married Anna May Lender (Deceased June 2, 2013) on February 8, 1953, in Tyrone. Ray is survived by 2 daughters and a son: Karen Rumberger of Tyrone, Judy Rodgers of Altoona, and Ray K. Rodgers of Lexington Park, MD. He is also survived by grandchildren: Joann (David) Moist, Thomas (Danyel) Rumberger, Kevin (Jenn) Rodgers, and Jared (Leslie) Rodgers; great-grandchildren: Kyle Williams, Sage and Logan Rumberger, Nathan and Jericho Rodgers. Ray is also survived by 3 sisters: Alice Kobuck, Donna Lewis, and Sandy (Sherman) Nelson; and a sister-in-law: Darlene Rodgers. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and in-laws: Joe and May Dillon; brothers: Frank, Alan, and Charles; a sister Vile Ann Dillon; brothers-in-law: John Kobuck and Tick Lewis; sister-in-law: Alice Rodgers; his son-in-law: Thomas Rumberger who he treated like another son; and his friend Rebecca Schaul.
Ray loved hunting and working on cars, tinkering with lawn mowers and small engines, and tearing things apart to see how they worked. Ray worked many jobs throughout his life. He worked as a house painter, painting many houses here in Tyrone. He worked at Bland's Park running rides and fixing them as he worked in the sauce plant when it was in the park. He worked for the state highway department and Snyder Township where he was a road foreman for many years. He also worked for the railroad. He ran for the Office of Township Supervisor and was the supervisor for 18 years. His highlight of being a supervisor was going to the township supervisor convention each year.
Ray was a member of the Blazing Arrow Hook and Ladder Fire Company for 64 years. He was a delegate to the fire convention every year for 50 plus years and attended his last convention at the age of 92. He belonged to the American Legion as a social member and the Bellwood Eagles.
A 7 pm funeral service for Ray Burley Rodgers will be held on Friday, March 21, 2025, at Feller Memorial Home with Reverend James House officiating. Friends will be received from 4 pm until the time of service. Interment will be made at Baughman Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Memorial gifts may be made to the Hookies Fire Company.
