Leona L. Haag, 98, of Tyrone and a resident of Graystone Altoona, passed away on Wednesday, March 19, 2025. She was born in Tyrone on August 8, 1926, a daughter of the late Leo Joseph and Rosa (Schoch) Long. At St. Matthew Catholic Church in Tyrone,
she married Philip A. Haag who preceded her in death on July 5, 2000. She is survived by five children: Anthony (Janice), Lawrence, Alan, and Bryan (Kristin) Haag, and Jean (Jay) Lehner; nine grandchildren: Joseph (Marissa) Haag, Lauren (Jerod) Torrenti, Maggie, Michael, Lauren, and Luke Haag, and Jack, Kevin, and Katherine Lehner; and four great-grandchildren: Layla, Ava, Harlow Leona, and Jaxon. She was preceded by two sisters: Georgette Thompson and Virginia Lilly.
Leona was a graduate of Tyrone Area High School. She was a devoted member of St. Matthew Catholic Church where she was very active in the life of the church. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court St. Rita 523 for over 70 years. She served as both Vice Regent and Regent during her time with CDA. She also volunteered with Meals on Wheels and helped to coordinate many bus trips for trips all around the country and overseas.
She enjoyed sewing, traveling, and being a resident in the Graystone communities where she lived, in Tyrone for 15 years and most recently in Altoona for 5. Leona loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
An 11 am Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, March 24, 2025, at St. Matthew Catholic Church in Tyrone with Father Michael Pleva officiating. Friends will be received at the church from 10 am until the 11 am mass. Interment will be made at Oak Grove Cemetery in Tyrone following the Mass. Contributions in her memory may be made to St. Matthew Catholic School, 1105 Cameron Ave. Tyrone, PA 16686. Floral contributions can be arranged with Garden Gate Florist of Tyrone.
