IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Junior C.
Hook
March 17, 1942 – November 1, 2021
Junior "Jr" C. Hook of Tyrone, passed away on November 1, 2021, with his beloved Zella beside him. Jr was born on March 17, 1942, on a farm in Penns Valley. He was the eldest of the late Cloyd "Guinea" "Pap" C. and the late Dorothy P. (Stamm) Hook's five sons. On June 13, 1992, he married Zella E. (Walk) Yates - who he considered his soul mate - and she survives at home. He is survived by sons, Robert L. (Jennifer) and Sean M. (Melanie), and daughter, Toni K. Walker, two of his brothers, Gene (Mary) and Daryl (Bonnie) as well as grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition, Jr is also survived by several people very dear to him -- Lillian Berglin Smith, Greg (Christy) Ray and Davis L. Hazlett II (who he called "Duffy" - Duffy helped with Jr's care and Jr considered him as another son). Jr was preceded in death by his brothers Gerald (Carol) in 2012 and Harold (Carol) in 2020. He was also preceded in death by his beloved "wicked" mother-in-law, Marie Beckwith, in 2011.
Jr retired from the Altoona Wal-Mart (he was one of that store's first employees) in September 2009. Before working at Wal-Mart, he was self-employed in Tyrone with Jr's Tires/Garage. Jr graduated from Penns Valley High School in 1960 where he wrestled and played football (he played on Penns Valley's first football team). He served in the US Army in the Corps of Engineers and reached the rank of Lieutenant by going through OCS. Even though Jr was a Penns Valley graduate, he was a Tyrone Golden Eagle fan and a proud member of the Tyrone Golden Eagle Monogram Club. Jr loved football and Zella shared in that so besides being Golden Eagle fans, they were Penn State and Notre Dame fans and Zella also being that Alabama fan as well as Steelers fans. In fact, they believed there were only two seasons -- football and waiting for football! Jr was also proud to be a member of the Moose, the Tyrone American Legion and the Hookies. Jr felt so blessed to be a member of the Bald Eagle United Methodist Church and when he could, they had attended the 8:00 o'clock service.
Jr totally enjoyed going for ice cream at Gardner's, having hot dogs - with everything but cheese - from Mac's Market and the peanut butter doughnuts from the Philipsburg Weis. Prior to Jr's declining health, he loved going to the Waffle Shop in Bellefonte where they were considered "regulars".
Friends and family will be received at 10:30 am at the Bald Eagle United Methodist Church on Saturday, November 6, 2021. A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 am with Pastor Jeff Holland officiating.
In his memory, memorial gifts may be made to the Bald Eagle UM Church (2785 Bald Eagle Pike, Tyrone, PA 16686) or to the Millersburg Ferry (1 North St, Millersburg, PA 17061).
