Obituary

Joseph Edward Rose Sr., 77 of Tyrone, and formerly of Chambersburg, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 29, 2024. He was born on July 12, 1947 in Chestertown, MD, a son of the late Herman L. and Maud V. (Gilson) Rose. On June 30, 1974, in Williamsport, MD he married Margaret (Ott) Rose who survives. Also surviving are four children: Susan M. (Kenneth) Jones of Vero Beach, FL; Robert L. Stouffer of York; Melanie Dawn Rose of Richmond, VA; and Joseph E. (Ginger) Rose Jr. of Warriors Mark; eight grandchildren: Timothy B. Jones of Woodbridge, VA; Samantha (Eric) Kraemer of Tega-Cay, SC; Gavin Adams and Hunter Stouffer of Dover; Collin J. (Hunter) Smith of Waynesboro; Artyr Rose, and Grace and Jordyn Rose of Warriors Mark; and one great-grandson: Elijah B. Jones of Mechanicsville, VA. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Hubert L. Rose, sister-in-law Barbara Rose, and niece Heather Rose in 1976.

Joe was a 1965 graduate of Salisbury Elk Lick High School. After high school he enlisted in the United States Army where he served honorably and was deployed for 2.5 years in Germany with the 2/64 Armored Division as a track vehicle mechanic. In 2013 he retired from Hammaker East Ltd. after 38 years of employment.

He was a past member of Grand Point Church in Chambersburg and a current member of Nittany Bible Church located near State College. He was also a past President of the Fayetteville Ruritan and zone 4 Governor, a past Federal Ruritan Potomac District Governor, and past President of the Fayetteville Browns with the Keystone Youth Football League.

Joe enjoyed hunting, fishing, and the outdoors, as well as Penn State and Pittsburgh Steelers football.

An 11:00 am funeral service for Joseph Edward Rose Sr. will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at Nittany Bible Church, 461 Deibler Rd, Pennsylvania Furnace, PA 16865, with Ryan Walk and Pastor Tyler Constable officiating. Friends will be received at the church building on Saturday from 10:00 am until the time of service. Internment will be made with military honors at the Cleversburg Cemetery on Saturday at 3:30 pm. Contributions in his memory may be made to Nittany Bible Church Benevolence Fund.
