Obituary

John W. Pavone, 86 of Homestead, FL and formerly of Tyrone, passed away on Saturday, November 29, 2025. He was born in Tyrone on March 7, 1939, the only child of the late John and Mary Irene (Poorman) Pavone. He is survived by 1st cousins: Michael Pavone, Angelene

(Peter) Buhay, and Janet Snare; 2nd cousins: Kathryn (Joel) Niemann, Jennifer (Rob) Davison, Nicholas Buhay, Megan (Manoj) Raghunathan, and Terry Snare; and 3rd cousins: Jacob, Joshua, and Cameron Niemann.

John was a 1957 graduate of Tyrone Area High School, received his bachelor's degree in education from Lock Haven State College in 1962 and his Master of Science in Education from West Virginia University in 1963. John enlisted in the Air Force and served honorably. After completing basic training in Texas, he was sent to Officers Training School where he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in 1964. From there, John attended Texas A&M University for post graduate work in Meteorology to prepare for working in the field of weather. John retired from the military in 1985 as a Lt. Colonel.

Following a decorated military career he took three years to travel the world, a passion that he continued to entertain throughout his life. In 1988, he began working for the National Hurricane Center as Chief Aerial Reconnaissance Coordination, All Hurricanes, from which he retired in 2017.

A memorial service for John W. Pavone will be announced at a later date. Arrangements are under the care of Richard H. Searer Funeral Home, Inc.
