IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John Burket
Morrow
April 22, 1949 – August 10, 2025
John Burket Morrow, 76, of Sinking Valley, passed away on Sunday, August 10, 2025.
Born in Altoona, John was raised in Sinking Valley by his parents, David Austin Morrow II and Mary Harnish (Burket) Morrow, as the youngest of five children. He was active in the Blair County 4-H program. While attending Tyrone Area High School, he developed his passion for wrestling. He lettered as a heavyweight on the school's wrestling team before graduating with the Class of 1967.
He went on to wrestle in his freshman year at Penn State, before graduating in 1971 with a bachelor's in Agricultural Economics. He was also a member of Alpha Zeta agricultural fraternity and the Penn State Dairy Science Club.
On June 26, 1971 he married Karen Krista Knarr of Tyrone before purchasing the family Century Farm, established in 1850, in Sinking Valley. As the fourth generation dairy farmer, John milked a herd of registered Guernseys for fifty-one years on Morrow Hillside Farm.
In addition to Hillside Farm, John demonstrated his dedication to Guernseys off the farm, as well. He was a lifelong member of the Pennsylvania Guernsey Breeders Association, where he served multiple terms as a director and president. He also represented Pennsylvania and Ohio as a national director of the American Guernsey Association (AGA) from 1993 to 2001. He served as AGA president from 1997 to 1999. For over thirty years, John and his family volunteered each year at the milkshake stand at Penn State Ag Progress Days which supported the state Guernsey youth programs. For his service, the state association recognized John and his family in 2003 with an induction in the PA Guernsey Breeders' Walk of Fame.
As a member of the Blair County Conservation District Board, John served continuously as a farmer director since 1999. Throughout his life, he remained an avid supporter of farmland preservation and the local 4-H programs.
He is survived by his wife and five children, Melissa Kohler (Dean) of Warriors Mark, Kristi Morrow (Matthew Ritsko) of Philadelphia, Matthew Morrow (Julie) of Sea Girt, NJ, Mary Morrow (Brian Angell) of State College, John Douglas Morrow (Stacey) of Williamsport; fourteen grandchildren Joseph Austin, Zachary, and Laura Kohler, John, Lydia, and James Ritsko, Hannah, William, Bennet, Madeline, and Ellowyn Morrow, Lucas, Emma, and Margaret Morrow.
He is also survived by his siblings Alice Morrow Trumbauer (Walter), Mary Morrow Woodruff (William, deceased), and Margaret Morrow Kelly (Thomas) and his sister-in-law Linda Morrow (George Pedlow) and many beloved nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by their eldest brother, David Austin Morrow III, and their parents.
John will be remembered not just as a dedicated dairy farmer but also as a devoted family man with a boundless love for his children and grandchildren.
Friends and family will be received on Thursday, August 14th at the Richard H. Searer Funeral Home, Tyrone from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm. A celebration of life service will be held at 11 am on Friday, August 15th at his home church, Sinking Valley Presbyterian Church, 6444 Kettle Rd, Tyrone, PA 16686.
