John "Jack" P. Meredith Sr. 92, of Tyrone, passed away on Wednesday, September 25, 2024. He was born in Tyrone on September 15, 1932, the son of the late Robert Karl and Dora (Cupp) Meredith. On May 1, 1971, he married Geraldine Hardy Shildt, who preceded him in death on September 24, 2013. Jack is survived by two children: Scott Meredith of Tyrone, and Denise Otto of Tacoma, WA; grandchildren: Misty Meredith-Davidson, Bridget Jefferies, Rachel Meredith, Jacob Meredith, Sonia Jackson VanRosendael, Delbert Jackson, and Angelina McMonagle; 12 great-grandchildren; and his extended Shildt family: Sue, David, Debbie, and Scott. He was preceded in death by one son, John P. Meredith Jr.; a great-grandchild; and siblings: Janice, Gwen, Shirley, Nancy, Dianne, Bob, Lee, and Teddy. He was the last of his immediate family.
Jack was a 1951 graduate of Tyrone Area High School. He retired from Westvaco Papermill in 1995 after 42 years of service. He served honorably in the United States Army from '50-'53 during the Korean Conflict.
He was a member of Tyrone Alliance Church, and Elks Lodge 212 for 70 years. He was a previous member of the Tyrone VFW. He enjoyed fishing with his buddies; Charlie, Smitty, Joe, and the late Larry Glace Sr, going on the pontoon boat at Prince Gallitzin, camping, and sports.
An 11 am funeral service with military honors for John P. "Jack" Meredith Sr. will be held on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, at Tyrone Alliance Church with Pastor Carl Schmidt officiating. Friends will be received at the Richard H. Searer Funeral Home, Inc on Monday, September 30, 2024 from 5-7 pm. Private interment will be made at Blair Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Tyrone Football Boosters.
