John J. Markel Sr., 57, of Tyrone passed away on Sunday, August 28, 2022. He was born in Tyrone on September 17, 1964, the son of the late Ronald A. and Marjorie L. (Davis) Markel Sr. On October 7, 2011, he married Candy Smith who survives. Also surviving are eight children: David Miller, John J. (Nancy) Markel Jr., Danica Miller, Tyler Biddle, Jessica Markel, Megan Markel, Mikenzie Weaver, and Jeremy Markel; seven grandchildren: Mayson, Vanessa, Zoey, Leilani, Coltyn, Charlotte, and Lucas; and two siblings: Barbara (Edwin) Sessamen and Ronald A. (Verna) Markel Jr. He was preceded in death by a niece: June Hoover; nephews: Josh Yingling and Devin Markel; and a best friend: Mahlon Osterhout Jr.

John was a machinist at Thompson Machine company. He was a member of the Blazing Arrow Hook and Ladder Fire Company. He enjoyed working on cars, hunting and fishing, camping, riding four-wheelers, and spending time with family.

A 1 PM funeral service for John J. Markel Sr. will be held on Friday, September 2, 2022, at the Richard H. Searer Funeral Home, Inc. with Pastor Randy Zitterbart officiating. Friends will be received on Friday from 11 am until the 1 PM service at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the care of Richard H. Searer Funeral Home, Inc.
