Lewis
March 29, 1935 – February 16, 2025
John Herbert Lewis, 89, of Tyrone, passed peacefully at home after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson's disease February 16, 2025. John was born at home in Tyrone on March 29, 1935 to the Late John Heckamn and Vera Mae (Westley) Lewis. On September 3, 1956 he was married in the home of Rev. Paul Cox in Spring Mount, PA, to Sylvia Jean Meek. They were blessed to share 68 happy years together.
In addition to his wife, John is survived children, Noreen Mansfield of Jacksonville FL, and Terry Paul Lewis of Norfolk VA; Nephew Douglas (Peggy) Isenberg of Franklintown PA; a very special nephew, Jeffery (Marie) Isenberg of Danville PA; beloved cousins, Evagene Shultz and Cathy Stonebraker both of Tyrone; and his cat Benny. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Jared Lee Mansfield, a sister Joan Isenberg and an infant brother Richard.
John was a 1953 graduate of Tyrone High School. He retired in 1977 from WestVaco after 44 years of service. John was of Methodist Faith, and a life member of the Tyrone Sportsman Association.
John Enjoyed fishing, day trips with Sylvia, eating out and watching the History Channel, Penn State Football and the Steelers. John was a huge history buff, especially World War II. John enjoyed spending time in his workshop making gifts of wood he proudly shared with others. He enjoyed spending time with his many nieces, nephews, cousins and best of all the Westley Family get togethers.
John was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. His positive attitude, love of nature and life made him so special to all who were blessed to know him.
Family and friends will be received at Feller Memorial Home on February 20, 2025 for 10am to 11am with a service following with Pastor Cory Dobrowolsky officiating.
