Joanne Santa Grimm, 87, passed away peacefully on August 5th , 2023 in Carlsbad, California. It is

impossible to sum up a life in a few words especially your mother's. Simply put Mom spent all of her life

in service to others. Her nursing profession defined not only what she did, but it defined all aspects of

how she lived her life. She had no limit to helping others. She was the Chief Caregiver to her family,

friends, many people in the Tyrone community, her husband, and her two boys. There should be a

picture of her beside the job description for "Nurse".

Joanne Caffarelli was born in Mount Union, PA in 1936 and moved early in life to Tyrone, PA where she

remained a resident until 2008. She married William Paul Grimm (TAHS Class of 1949) at St. Matthews

Catholic Church on May 7 th , 1960. They were married for forty-six years.

William Joseph was born in 1962, followed by Michael Paul in 1969. Mom permanently relocated to

Palm Springs, California after our father's death. She relocated to Carlsbad, California in 2021 where she

lived until passing.

Mom graduated from Tyrone Area High School in 1953. In 1956, she received her RN from St. Francis

General Hospital and Rehabilitation Institute, School of Nursing in Pittsburg. Mom began her career at

Tyrone Hospital and worked for more than 30 years in various positions including Director of Nursing.

Most of the kids that grew up in Tyrone remember Mom for her long tenure as a Pediatric Nurse

Practitioner along side of Dr. Lewis. She finished up her career at the Altoona Hospital caring for patients

on the palliative care floor.

She is survived by her two children, Dr. William "Will" J. Grimm and husband David Brinkman of Palm

Springs, California, Michael P. Grimm and wife Ieva of Beaufort, North Carolina; Grandchildren, 2LT

Dylan Allison (Ft. Moore, GA), and Jacob William Grimm (Beaufort, NC); Siblings Charles Caffarelli

(Warriors Mark, PA), Evelyn Headings (Carlsbad, CA), and Rosanna Lower (Lancaster, PA). She was

preceded in death by her husband William Paul Grimm, her parents Charles and Rosanna Caffarelli, and

her brother James Caffarelli.

Funeral mass will be held at 10 am Saturday, October 7th , 2023 at St. Matthews Roman Catholic Church,

Tyrone, PA with Father Michael Pleva as celebrant. Internment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.

Friends will be received after the mass at the church vestibule. Memorial contributions to St Matthews
