IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James Arthur
Morrissey
November 17, 1928 – June 9, 2025
It is with sadness that the family of James Arthur Morrissey, 96 of Ironville, Tyrone, share his passing from this world of the dying to the world of the living with God. James passed Monday, June 9, 2025, after a two week stay at the James E. Van Zandt VA Medical Center. He was born in Snyder Township, Ironville to Arthur Winfield and Venus Angeline (Parks) Morrissey on November 17, 1928. On May 20, 1950, in Winchester, VA he married Phyllis Mae Bonsell. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers: Harry, David and an infant. He is survived by his wife Phyllis; children: Angeline Leeper of Hollidaysburg, Bonnie Fogleman of Tyrone, James Morrissey of Tyrone, Steven (Cathy) Morrissey of Altoona, and Ed Morrissey of Tyrone; a brother: Earl Morrissey; and many grand and great-grandchildren.
James attended Tyrone Area High School. He was employed with Tyrone Feed Mill, Alcoa, and Skills. Jim served honorably in the US Army from February 28, 1952 - November 27, 1953, during the Korean War.
Jim lived his entire life in the village of Ironville. Family and friends knew him to be a dedicated worker, honest with a perseverance matched by few. He was at many of his children's building and remodeling projects. His baked beans were requested and a favorite at reunions. A garden kept him busy in the backyard. Jim enjoyed hunting in his younger years and that transitioned into enjoyment of our local PA woods and his bagged lunch. Jim also liked the heat from his wood furnace and actively cut firewood with his sons. Jim was of the Christian faith.
A 1 pm funeral service for James Arthur Morrissey will be held on Friday, June 13, 2025, at Feller Memorial Home with Pastor Lou Hileman officiating. Friends will be received on Friday from noon until the time of service at the funeral home. Interment with military honors will be at Blair Memorial Park following the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to James E Van Zandt Medical Center through the CDCE - Voluntary department.
