Jack Glenn Ickes, 77, of Tyrone died Thursday, August 21, 2014 at The Lutheran Home at Hollidaysburg. He was born January 8, 1937 in Altoona, the son of Ross A. and Edna Wolfe Ickes. On July 3, 1959 in Altoona, he was married to Marjorie Ann Hevner, who preceded him in death April 17, 2001. He is survived by a son, Mark Ickes and his wife, Pamela Tokar-Ickes of Somerset, and a daughter, Lisa Ickes of Tyrone; grandsons, Bradford Ickes and his wife Jennifer and Terrell Ickes and great- grandchildren, Greyson, Karsyn and Easton, all of Somerset. Also surviving are sister-in-law, Patricia (Ickes) Wilt and friend, Nancy Wise, both of Altoona. The last of his immediate family, he was preceded in death by brother, Paul W. Ickes and his wife June, and brother, George Ross Ickes.
Jack was a graduate of Altoona High School, Class of 1954 and had been employed as a laboratory technician at Tyrone Hospital for 40 years, retiring in 1998. He had service with the U.S. Army Air Force during the Korean Era. He was a member of the First English Lutheran Church of Tyrone. He was a member of the Howard Gardner Post 281 American Legion, the Blazing Arrow Hook and Ladder Fire Company, the Bavarian Aid Society of Altoona and of the Sinking Valley Country Club. He enjoyed golfing with his friends and grandsons, traveling, gardening and most of all, spending time with his family.
A memorial service for Jack G. Ickes will be held at 11a.m. on Saturday, August 30, 2014 at the First English Lutheran Church, 17 W. 13th Street, Tyrone, PA 16686 with Pastor Sharon Erb officiating. The family will receive friends at the church for one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to Allegheny Lutheran Social Ministries, 915 Hickory Street, Hollidaysburg, PA 16648 or the Boys and Girls Club of Somerset County, 117 Georgian Place, Somerset, PA 15501.
Arrangements are under the care of the Richard H. Searer Funeral Home Inc., 115 W. 10th Street, Tyrone, PA 16686.
