IN LOVING MEMORY OF
George R.
Warner
June 21, 1935 – June 11, 2015
George R. "Dick" Warner, age 79, of Port Matilda passed away in his lifelong home on Thursday, June 11, 2015. Dick was of the Protestant faith. He was preceded in death by his parents George S. and Ruth Spotts Warner, his brother Harrison Spotts and sister-in-law Martha Spotts, a sister Marjorie Warner and niece Susie Hescox.
Dick attended the Worth Township and Port Matilda school system. He was inducted into the US Army in early 1953, but was released from active duty later that year when the Korean Conflict armistice led to a rapid deactivation and reduction of US forces. Dick then worked for 43 years for the Pennsylvania Railroad before retiring in 1997. During his retirement years, Dick did a wonderful job of caring for his older sister Marjorie.
Dick was a very avid outdoorsman with a great passion for hunting and fishing, was a baseball and railroad historian, a big fan of the Altoona Curve, Pittsburgh Pirates and Pittsburgh Steelers, loved family picnics at Black Moshannon and watching his great nephews and nieces play baseball and softball.
Dick is survived by his brother Robert (Nancy) Warner of Port Matilda; nephews Todd (Elaine) Warner of Howard, Jayson (Sanae) Warner of Peach Tree City, Georgia, Richard (Judy) Spotts and Stanley Spotts of Bellwood; nieces Melissa (Karl) Stine of Port Matilda, Tamara (Garrett) Housel of Port Matilda, Norma (Walter) Shoff and Marsha (John) Patton of Bellwood, and Lowella (John) Thoman of Manchester, PA.
Friends will be received at the Richard H. Searer Funeral Home Inc., Tyrone from 10 to 11 AM on Tuesday, June 16th with the funeral service with Pastor Todd Templeton to immediately follow. Dick will be laid to rest beside his parents in Grays Cemetery, Halfmoon Township, Centre County.
