George L. Damico, 86 of Tyrone, and a resident at Homewood at Martinsburg, passed
away on Friday, April 22, 2022. He was born in Tyrone, on December 23, 1935, the son of the late Santo and Philamena (Cavouti) Damico. On February 6, 1960 at St. Matthew's Catholic Church in Tyrone, he married Kay Price, who survives. He is survived by four daughters: Shelly (Drew) Slabe of Pittsburgh, Dayna (Todd) McCahan of Orbisonia, Sharon Damico of Huntingdon, and Karen Eggleston of South Portland, ME; six grandchildren: Mindy Weyandt, Allison Koch, Patrick Slabe, Paige Eggleston, Ryan Slabe, and Jack Slabe; and several great-grandchildren.
George was the last of his immediate family. He was preceded by one sister: Antoinette Updike; two brothers: Joseph and Basil Damico; and a son-in-law: Matt Eggleston.
George was a 1954 graduate of Tyrone Area High School. He served honorably in the
US Army during the Korean War. He was employed by WestVaco Papermill where he held several positions throughout his time there, retiring after 38 years of service, as the finishing department supervisor in 1998.
He was a member of the Tyrone Elks Lodge 212. He loved participating in and watching
sports. He was a talented athlete, excelling in baseball, football, and basketball. He received interest from the Baltimore Orioles organization, as well as many scholarship offers. He enjoyed history, reading, gardening, cooking, and he was devout in his
faith. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren.
An 11 AM mass for George L. Damico will be held on Friday, April 29, 2022, at St.
Matthew's Catholic Church with Father Jozef Kovacik officiating. Interment with military honors will be held at Oak Grove Cemetery following the service.
Arrangements are under the care of the Feller Memorial Home.
