Obituary

Faye Louise Steele was born February 4, 1927 in Worth Township, Port Matilda, PA the daughter of the late Florence M. Long of Tyrone, PA.

She is survived by a very close cousin, Mrs. Louise Giedroc of State College, PA and close friends William & Shirley Fink of Tyrone, PA along with numerous other relatives. She was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia S. Parks and brother-in-law David J. Parks and also by her cousin Mrs. Carol McCloskey of Port Matilda.

Faye was a graduate of Tyrone Area High School class of 1945 and continued to remain active with her class through her participation in the planning of class reunions and other class related activities.

She was emp;loyed by the Claster Lumber Company at both the Tyrone and Philipsburg facilities for 47 years, beginning her career in 1945. Hired as a bookkeeper she held that position for 31 years and, receiving a promotion to Branch Manager held that position for 16 years, retiring in 1992. Following her retirement from the Claster Lumber Company she served the United Methodist Conference as Financial Secretary, as well as being in the Church Trustee Committee. The last several years she was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church.

She was a member of the Business and Professional Woman (BPW) organization working for equity for all women in the workplace serving as treasurer for a number of years and also was a member of The Order of the Eastern Star, one of the largest fraternal organizations in the world serving as an auxiliary floor officer.

She served as the 5th Ward Election Board Majority Inspector of elections for many years and still found time to volunteer at the Epworth Manor Gift Shop. She was also a past member of the Tyrone Chamber of Commerce serving on the Chamber Board of Directors. She also bowled in several bowling leagues through the years and played in several card clubs and belonged to a sewing club.

An 11 am funeral service for Faye Louise Steele will be held on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at Wesley United Methodist Church with Reverends James House and David Dearing officiating. Friends will be received at the c​hurch from 10 am until the time of service. Interment will be made following the service at Blair Memorial Park. Contributions in Faye's memory may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church.
