Edward "Ed" Michael Wilson, 73 of Tyrone, passed away on Sunday, February 18, 2024. He was born in Altoona on January 9, 1951, the son of the late Harold T. and Mary E. (Edwards) Wilson. On August 2, 1975, at Calvary Baptist Church he married Claudia Susan (Estright) Wilson and was the love of her life. Along with his wife he is also survived by his two daughters: Anitra (Lael) Duey, and Brittany Wilson; two brothers: Thomas (Marilyn) and Samuel (Nancy) Wilson; two sisters: Margaret (David) Shoop and Diane (John) O'Keefe; seven grandchildren: Micaylee, Zenovia, Caleb, Isabella, and Zadok Duey, Michael Clint Wilson, and Hunter Kisko; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son: Clint Wilson; and a sister: Mary Jane Wilson.
Ed was a 1968 graduate of Altoona High School. He obtained a diploma and certification in Computer Repair Technology from Altoona Area Vocational Technical School. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He worked at Rushton Mining in Osceola Mills for 13 years before eventually working for New Enterprise Stone and Lime Co. for 28 years as a lightweight profile operator and was certified in PA, MD, and WV. He was also an instructor in training all of the other profilers for the company. He was responsible for profiling the Pennsylvania Turnpike for PennDOT across the state.
He served honorably in the US Army. He received several medals including being a sharpshooter. While in the military he attended Colorado Electronic Technical College and received certification in Community Antenna Television Technician. He completed Quartermaster School where he received diplomas in Special Purpose Equipment Repair Parts Specialist and Stock Control and Accounting Specialist. He was at Fort Carson, Colorado before deployment in Okinawa, Japan and then Tokashiki, Japan where he worked in underground artillery. He was also in the Honor Guard at Arlington Cemetery where he shot rifle volleys over the graves of the soldiers.
Ed was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed jeeps, working outside, and collecting coins. He was a handyman and was always fixing everything, from plumbing and electrical work to cutting hair and everything in between. He was an animal lover but most of all he loved his family and kids.
A 4 pm funeral service will be held on Friday, February 23, 2024 at Richard H. Searer Funeral Home, Inc. Friends will be received from 2 pm until the time of service. Private interment will be made at Carson Valley Cemetery.
