Obituary

Earl R. Harris Sr. 81, of Tyrone, passed away on January 11, 2022. He was born in Philipsburg on December 16, 1940 to the late Donald Harris and Amelia (Lansbury). He was married to Beverly Miller, who preceded him in death on November 8, 2012. He is survived by his children, Kathy (John) Banks, Mack (Marcy) Harris, Wendy (Lorin) Woodring, and Tim (Kelly) Harris;

grandchildren John III (Molly), MaKaela (Tony), Ryan (Ashley) Seth, Mackenze, Lauren (Quentin), Garrett, Derrick, and Brianna; great grandchildren, Maddie, Johnny, Bennett, Corbin, Breyton, Bohan, Logan, John Ryan, Camryn; six siblings Bill Harris, Amelia Bohm, Barb Conklin, Dave Harris, Greg Harris, and Betsy Way; and a very special nephew: John (Lisa) Myers. He was preceded in death by three siblings: Eddie Harris, Eleanor Mckay, and Donny Harris.

Earl was a 1958 graduate of Philipsburg-Osceola High School. He began as an apprentice at the WestVaco Paper Mill in Tyrone and then began working for the Appleton Papermill in Roaring Spring where he worked until retirement as a foreman at the mill.

Earl was heavily involved in wrestling, when he was in high school, in 1958, he won a state championship. He went on to contribute greatly in the sport working with Red Campbell at Russ Houck's Camp Maple Lake, and also dedicating many years to the Tyrone Wrestling program from teaching youth wrestling at the YMCA to coaching both the junior high and varsity wrestling programs in many capacities.

He also enjoyed hunting and fishing, and telling stories. The thing that Earl loved the most was being with family and watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren in their many activities.

A 10 am Funeral Mass for Earl R. Harris Sr. will be held on Monday, January 17, 2022 at Saint Matthews Catholic Church, 1105 Cameron Ave, Tyrone, PA with Father Jozef officiating. Friends will be received on Sunday, January 16, 2022 from 4-7 pm at Feller Memorial Home. Contributions in Earl's memory may be made to Tyrone Wrestling, 4518 Meadow Wood Lane, Warriors Mark, PA 16877, or Saint Judes Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
