Deborah K. Markel Nearhoof, 72 of Tyrone, passed away on Saturday, August 2, 2025. She was born in Philipsburg on December 5, 1952, a daughter of the late William L. and Betty V. (Drake) Markel Sr. She is survived by two daughters: Heather Leah Mitchell and Elizabeth Ellen Evans; four grandchildren: Olivia R. (Eric) Laich, Vincent S. Mitchell, Drake C. Mitchell, and Sophia E. Mitchell; a great grandson on the way; four siblings: William L. (Sister Pamela) Markel Jr., Mitzi E. (Brother John) Kobuck, Jeffrey Markel, and Lisa Jo (John) Plowman; many nieces and nephews whom she loved greatly; and Charles F. Nearhoof Jr. She was preceeded in death by a sister Barbara, a nephew John "Johnny" Joseph Kobuck IV, a niece Katie Lou Markel, and a great nephew Carter Andrew Hook.

She was a 1970 graduate of Tyrone Area High School, and attended Altoona Beauty School. She was a veteran who served honorably in the United States Air Force. She worked as the secretary/treasurer of Nearhoof Machine Inc. She was also a member of the Christian Coalition.

She enjoyed cooking, sewing and cross stitching, music, reading Perry Stone books, discussing politics, gardening and canning, and her dogs. What Deborah loved more than anything though was spending time with her family who will miss her dearly as they reflect on a life well lived.

An 11 am funeral service with military honors for Deborah K. Markel Nearhoof will be held on Friday, August 8, 2025, at Feller Memorial Home. Friends will be received from 6 to 8 pm on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at the funeral home, as well as on Friday from 10 am until the start of the 11 am funeral service. Private interment will be made at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of Feller Memorial Home.
