Daryl Lynn Taylor passed away on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, surrounded by his family at his home in Tipton. He was born at home on September 18, 1949, in Tyrone, PA, the son of the late Dean L. and Mary Louise (Zitsch) Taylor. He is survived by two brothers: Ray D. and Kevin L. (Becky) Taylor; sisters: Beth A. Walters, Deann S. (Chet) Mengel, and Brenda L. (Ken) Robison; as well as 12 nieces and 4 nephews.
Daryl was a 1967 graduate of Bellwood-Antis High School and attended Penn State University Altoona Campus receiving an Electrical Degree. He worked first for Central Railroad of Altoona as an electrician and then with Amtrak working with high speed trains from New York to Washington before transferring to Harrisburg where he retired. Daryl also cared deeply about animals.
He was drafted into the United States Army in June of 1968. He completed his Basic Training at Fort Gordon, GA and AIT in Fort Sill, Oklahoma.He was recognized for his extraordinary intellect and named First Private. He served honorably for 15 months at a duty station in Izmit, Turkey in the NATO diplomatic service where he was tasked with attaching nuclear warheads to missiles and teaching the Turkish military how to replicate the procedure. During his journey home he visited Munich, Germany and swam in the Black Sea and visited the Black Forest. He was glad to have never been sent to Vietnam because the ones that did were not sure if they were going to make it home.
