IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Charles Allen
Boyd
August 6, 1946 – January 31, 2025
Charles Allen Boyd
August 6th, 1946 – January 31st, 2025
Charles A. Boyd (Charlie) passed away on January 31, 2025 at home in the arms of his loving family after a brief battle with cancer. He was born on August 6, 1946 in Roaring Spring, PA, son of Raymond and Marie Boyd. On February 17, 1968, he married his high school sweetheart Shirley Brower. The two shared almost 57 years of marriage.
Charlie is survived by his wife Shirley, sons David (Becky) and Charles (Dawn) of Tyrone, grandchildren Ashley (Josh) Wright, Nicole (Brad) Wetzel, Storm Boyd and Katelyn Boyd, great-grandchildren Levi and Lucas, sisters Gloria Estep, Carol Friday and Joyce Ellenberger. His sister Linda Boyd preceded him in death in September of 2023.
Charlie grew up helping work the farm fields in Salemville, PA. At the age of 16, his father, a skilled orchardist, moved the family to Decker Hollow to run Alder Run orchard. Charlie graduated from Tyrone Area High School in 1965.
In November 1965, Charlie proudly became a United States Marine and served 18 months in Vietnam. After returning home, Charlie was employed at PPG, Tipton, PA, where he stayed for 42 years until retiring.
After serving his country, Charlie also served his community. Early on, he spent many years as a volunteer medic and firefighter at the Blazing Arrow Hook & Ladder fire department. Charlie was a past commander, and held multiple other offices, at the Veterans of Foreign War Post 4559 in Tyrone. Charlie was a long standing member of the Tyrone VFW, Tyrone American Legion, the Hookies and the German Seventh Day Baptist Church.
Charlie was a man that somehow made it all happen. Anyone that knew him felt his caring and supportive personality. Family traditions and gatherings were the center of his joy. Whether it be hunting and fishing, chasing the grandchildren around the yard, cooking wings on the grill, shooting pool, playing golf, or cheering on the Curve at a ball game, the memories held by his family and friends will help them smile and warm their hearts.
