Obituary

Barbara "Barbie" Rose Cherry, 66 of Tyrone, passed away on Tuesday, May 7, 2024. She was born in Tyrone on November 9, 1957, the daughter of the late Hilda Gault Cherry. She is survived by two sisters: Carmen Steele and Millicent Creighton; many nieces and nephews; and a special caretaker, Wanda McCarron. She was preceded in death by a brother: Edwin A. "Chip" Cherry.

Barbara was a 1979 graduate of Hollidaysburg Area High School. She worked at Skills and was a member of the Grazierville United Methodist Church. She was a volunteer at the James E. VanZandt VA Hospital with over 2,800 hours of service.

She was very competitive and it showed as she was a very active member and participant in the Special Olympics since 1971. She competed in many sports including bowling, swimming, volleyball, and basketball. Her Basketball team once won the PA State Championship. Barbie was loving and kind and was never afraid to take on any challenges that came her way.

A 1 pm funeral service for Barbara Rose Cherry will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at Feller Memorial Home with Pastor Preston Hutchins officiating. Friends will be received at the funeral home from 11 am until the time of service. Committal service will

follow immediately after the funeral service at the funeral home. Interment will be made at Charlottesville Cemetery.
