Obituary for William A. Miller Sr.

William A. Miller Sr., 75 of Thomastown, passed away on July 5, 2022, at Penn Highlands Tyrone. He was born in Thomastown on May 22, 1947, the son of the late Charles Burns and Caroline (Bonsell) Miller. On October 11, 1967, in Vail, he married Sharon Bonsell Miller who survives. Also surviving is his only son: William A. (Mintie Reese) Miller Jr. of Bald Eagle; a daughter: Brandi Emenhiser (Josh) Sumpter; two grandsons: Phalen and Rowen, and a step grandson Soren, all of Odd, WV; one brother: Robert Miller of Tyrone; and a sister: Linda Witherspoon. He was preceded in death by a sister, Patti.
Bill was a 1965 graduate of Tyrone High School. He served honorably in the U.S. Navy. He was employed as a painter, a cook at the Moose Lodge, a bartender, and in his later years did landscaping and yard work.
He was a member of the Tyrone American Legion post 212 for over 30 years. He loved music and played both guitar and harmonica, he was very musically and artistically inclined. He loved cooking and woodworking, and was a skilled carpenter. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was also very proud of being the longest residing resident of Thomastown.
At Bill’s request there will be no services, he didn’t want any fanfare and the family asks that no food, flowers, or clergy be sent, but cards are welcome. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the NRA, National Rifle Association of America, 11250 Waples Mill Road, Fairfax, VA 22030.
