Obituary for Sara Castagnola
Sara M. (Barba) Castagnola, 94, of Tyrone, died on Monday February 13, 2023 at home. She was born on October 29, 1928 in Clearfield PA, a daughter of the late Carmen and Rose (Castagnolo) Barba. On September 18th 1948, in Clearfield, she married Anthony V. Castagnola who preceded her in death on March 25, 1998.
She is survived by a son, Nick A. (Debbie); daughter, Rose M. both of Tyrone; grandchildren, Nicole (Jason) Burkle, of Altoona, and Doug (Heather) Castagnola, of Tyrone; great grandchildren, Ethan, Derek, Brandon, Lincoln and Hailey; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brothers, John and Frank; half-brothers Samuel and Santo; and an infant brother John.
Sara was a member of St. Matthew’s Roman Catholic Church, where she sang in the church choir for many years. She was a lifetime member of Catholic Daughters of America, Court St. Rita #523, and was a charter member of Allegheny Chorale.
She enjoyed spending time with her family and attending her great-grandchildren’s sporting and musical events. She was a dedicated election worker for many years.
A Mass of Christian funeral, will be held at 11:00 a.m Saturday February 18, 2023 at St. Matthew’s Roman Catholic Church with Father Michael Pleva as celebrant, internment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends will be received Friday from 4-8pm At Feller Memorial Home. Memorial Contributions to St Matthews Roman Catholic Church, 1105 Cameron Ave, Tyrone.
