Obituary for Sandra J. Gripp
Sandra J. Gripp, 76 of Tyrone, died Wednesday, June 26, 2019 at UPMC Altoona. Sandra was born on May 6, 1943, the daughter of the late Arch and Margaret Eckard Black. On January 23, 1965 in Winchester, VA she married George E. Gripp Sr. who preceded her in death on August 15, 1993. She is survived by her son: George E. (Sharon) Gripp Jr; three grandchildren: Nicole, Brandon and Damon Gripp; one great-granddaughter: Kendall Gripp; one brother: Kermit Black; and one sister: Rosella Rice. She was preceded in death by two brothers: John and Thomas Black.
Sandra was a graduate of Claysburg Kimmel High School. She worked as a beautician for many years and then at the Gardner’s Candies factory from which she retired. Sandy cherished her time with her family and the many activities she and her grandchildren were able to do. She also spent time talking on the phone with many friends and relatives. She enjoyed cooking for her grandchildren when they stopped for a quick bite before a sporting event or work. Sandy attended her grandchildren's sporting events or listened to them on the radio.
Friends will be received on Monday, July 1, 2019 from 6 to 8 PM at the Richard H. Searer Funeral Home, Inc. and again on Tuesday, July 2, 2019 from 11 AM until Noon at the funeral home. A Noon funeral service with committal for Sandra J. Gripp will be held at the Richard H. Searer Funeral Home, Inc. with Todd Lewis officiating. Interment will be made at Grandview cemetery at the convenience of the family.
