Obituary for Samuel K Lykens

Samuel K. Lykens, 63 of Tyrone, died Monday July 1, 2019 at UPMC Altoona. Sam was born on May 31, 1956, the son of the late Blair W. and Jean (Leeper) Lykens Jr. Sam is survived by one sister: Linda Lykens of Tyrone; and several cousins: Richard Merryman, Nancy Bolinda, Lynne and Teresa Merryman and Steve Lykens.
Sam was a 1975 graduate of Tyrone High School. He worked at Penn State University as a tech services employee with Auxiliary and Building Services before his retirement in 2010.
He enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs and NASCAR but the sport he loved most was Wrestling. Sam belonged to the Nittany Lion Wrestling Club, the Tyrone Wrestling Booster Club, Tyrone Monogram Club and the Citizens Fire Company. He spent many years as a wrestling manager while in school and then later on as an assistant coach, volunteering his time to the Tyrone Wrestling program. His knowledge on the sport was vast.
A memorial service will be held for Samuel K. Lykens on Monday, July 8, 2019 at noon at the Christ United Methodist Church of Tyrone with pastor Tina Hawkins officiating. Friends will be received at the church from 10 AM until the noon service.
