Obituary for Ronald L. Shanafelt

Ronald L. Shanafelt, 80 of Tyrone, passed into the arms of his Lord and Savior on August 22, 2021, after a fierce battle with cancer. He was born on March 18, 1941, the son of the late Clarence and Jean (Coble) Shanafelt. He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Pamela (Dean) Shanafelt; a sister: Mary Lou Calderwood of Boston, MA; and sister-in-law: Carole (Joe) Basile of Altoona.
Also surviving are three children: Daniel (Amy) Shanafelt of Tipton, Krista Shanafelt of Virginia Beach, VA, and Erin (Dan) King of Hershey; five grandchildren: Kaitlin, Corrigan and Keagan Shanafelt, and Nora and Sidney King; and to granddogs: Cody and Vienna.
Ron was a 32-year veteran of the Pennsylvania State Police, retiring in 1995 at the rank of Corporal. He loved his job and was so proud to wear the uniform.
His passion for vacationing with family in their motorhome was evident. While “snowbirding” with his wife for 22 years, they made many wonderful friends.
Ron was a member of the Warriors Mark United Methodist Church, Tyrone Elks #212, and the Heidelberg Club Altoona.
Friends will be received at Feller Memorial Home from 2-4 and 6-8 pm on Thursday, August 26, 2021. A 1:00 pm memorial service will be held on Friday, August 27, 2021, at the Warriors Mark United Methodist Church with Pastor Ron Baker officiating.
